How can i help? I live in LA but visit Philly every six weeks, staying with a friend at 13th and Pine. My daughter is a fulltime boarder at the Rock Ballet School at Washington and Broad. Would love to get her involved too in her immediate community.
PS I’m a volunteer at a 55 yr old organic farm in Malibu so i have a little experience.
My day job is at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and my parttime job is as an Associate Editor with a local L.A. MidCity news magazine.
Hi Renee! I would love some help. I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures, but the garden at 6th and Washington is very small scale, since I take care of it by myself. As of today I am finished my school year as a 7th grade teacher, so I hope to visit the garden more than the usual once a week. Trash clean up, watering, and weeding are of course the basic activities, but can be done every day just about. You could help with that, or we could meet to discuss ideas because I am far from an expert and, with the sub-par soil, it’s really just trial and error.
My major pet peeve however, is the wall at the garden. I am super eager to add some color but don’t know how to go about doing it. The owners of the Vietnamese restaurant have expressed their support of the garden.
As for the garden at 16th and South, it has been demolished by a bulldozer. These are the perils of the guerrilla gardener.
