While doing my usual guerrilla thang, a man asks me if I want any free plants. Heck yeah!
So Mr. Joseph Gonzales tells me to stop on by the Fleisher Art Memorial where I can pick up parsley or basil or collards or rosemary or tomatoes. How awesome it was to pick up my plants from a group which believes in “My Community, My World, Myself”
Now 6th and Washington has a full fledged badass garden. Thank you SO much!
When I got home and read up on Fleisher, I was pretty impressed with their programs and community partnerships. As a teacher myself, I am automatically attracted to “the arts [which] provide a fertile environment for learning because they promote inquiry, experimentation, and application — the basic building blocks of education — and provide an active and positive means for children to process and re-express, in their own terms, their experiences of the world around them.”
Good luck to the little sprouts!
